OBITUARY OF GERALD LUTHER ROBINSON
The memorial service for Gerry Robinson in Alabama
is at April 5, 2014 at 11 a.m. at East Walker Church of Christ. Following the service the family and friends will gather in the church's fellowship hall for lunch.
A private service at the cemetery for the family will follow.
Gerald (Gerry) Robinson, of Coarsegold, died March 14, 2014 at the age of 77 at the Oakhurst Care and Wellness Center. He moved from Southern California to Coarsegold March 2003.
He was born in Dora, Alabama on January 22, 1937.
Mr. Robinson attended Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama and graduated from the University of Arizona with a B.A., in 1965. Between degrees, he served in the U.S. Army. After graduation from college, he worked 40 years for the aerospace industries as a purchasing manager.
In 1979, the Robinsons helped form the Carrousel of Clowns, with Jackie and Sydney Kern. The Carrousel of Clowns performed in hospitals, care facilities, terminally-ill and abused children facilities; spreading smiles in places where few existed. The Robinsons also had their own clown company, Apple Dandy Parties, in which the Robinsons performed at parties and events. A bequest led to the naming of a study room in the couple’s honor at Oviatt Library at Cal State Northridge.
Gerald (Gerry), a UCLA heart transplant recipient on November 2, 1998, lived 15 years to spread cheer to other transplant patients, in the wonder to the eyes of a child, and a twinkle in the eyes of the aged.
Mr. Robinson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Martha Taylor Robinson, his sister Terah Sherer, Jasper, Al, brothers Michael (Carolyn) Robinson of Maylene Al and Nelson (Connie) Robinson of Dora, Al. Gerald (Gerry) was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Edith Robinson and brother Timothy S. Robinson . Survivors are sister-in-law Janet Andrew of Warren, Mich.,two Uncles Mike Sumner, Martinez, Ca. and Bryceon Sumner, Tucker,Ga, nieces and nephews
