Update on Marie
I never got your e-mail asking “Where they are now” but I’ve
seen it mentioned on the Dora website a few times and thought I would
like to let all my classmates of “1972” know where I am
and where I’ve been the past 37 years. I would really like
to hear from all of them if possible (firstname.lastname@example.org).
I married in June of 1972 (Gary Johnson) after graduation and lived in
or around Walker County for the next 9 years.
(Gary and I divorced in June 1981) we had 3 children Jennifer (1973), Jeremey
(1974) and Juanita (1976). My Mother passed away in June of 1981 (this crushed
my whole world as she was my best friend) and I left Alabama in August
of 1981 and went out west for about 5 years. I lived in El Paso, Texas;
Chamberino, New Mexico and Chaparral, New Mexico for a while. I
attended International Business College in El Paso, Texas and when I completed
I was asked to teach the Dictaphone Class (legal, medical and business
transcription). I took some correspondences courses through the
University of New Mexico to update my computer skills. I moved back to
Alabama briefly in 1985.
In January 1986 I moved to Greensboro, North Carolina. In September
of 1986 I met my husband (a wonderful Christian man) who had a daughter and
son (Bobbie (14) and Terry (10)) at that time. After being introduced
by our daughters (Bobbie & Jenniffer) we were married in April of
1987. After several different jobs and a few years later,
I landed a job with Moses Cone Health Systems and worked for them for
18 years until they did away with my job.
I started working as an Office Manager with a small paint company where
I am today and enjoy my job completely.
Also, our family has grown and we have 10 grandchildren; Christopher (20);
Michael (18); Keith (17); Sierra (15);
Brandi (14); Chasity (12); Adam (11); David (10); Leslie (7); Anna (6)
and one on the way, due in October, (a boy).
We also had a great-grandchild “still born” in December of 2008
and expecting another great-grandchild in September.
Life has had its ups and downs though as with every family; my mother-in
law passed away in 1992; my niece Carla in 1994; and in 2005 we lost
my brother-in-law Carl in March; my dad in July; my brother (Roland)
in October; my children’s dad (Gary)
in November; and 4 elderly friends from our church in December. Then
in July of 2006 my father-in-law passed away.
God has helped us through each and every tragedy and we are thankful.
I know some of our classmates have passed away through the years and
I know many of our classmates have experienced
tragedies of their own and my heart and prayers go out to each and every
family member who has gone through these losses.
Love and prayers to all.
Gladys Marie (Mitchell) Moore
P.S. I love being here in North Carolina but I still miss everyone
in Alabama and still consider that HOME.
