Residents in Sumiton lined up Tuesday to be one of the first patrons of the community’s first automated car wash. The Sumiton Express Car Wash opened up on Monday but held the official grand opening on Tuesday. -
SUMITON — Residents in Sumiton now have a new and faster way to clean their car as Sumiton Express Car Wash opened to the public on Tuesday morning.
Car wash owners Patrick and Brooke Dodd said they were excited about the opening of the automated wash. Patrick Dodd said his car wash differs from others in the immediate area of Sumiton.
“Well, this is what they call an extreme express tunnel wash,” Dodd said while showing off the facility.  “It is not the same as the traditional spray-off car washes. All you do is pull up, select the wash and let the car wash do all the work while you sit comfortably in your car. It is that easy.”
The car wash utilizes a conveyor belt to move cars through the enclosed space instead of some car washes which move the brushes.
“All you do is put the car in neutral and enjoy the quick wash,” Dodd said. “The wash takes right at a minute, and once you are through you can help yourself to the free vacuum service.”
The facility can wash 60 cars per hour. Dodd said the lack of waiting will help out anyone who likes to enjoy the weekend.
“Instead of spending a couple of hours cleaning your car on Saturday, why not just bring it to us,” Dodd said. “If you went and purchased car cleaner and spent your Saturday washing the car you would spend more money and time then if you came to the car wash. I know personally the weekends are too short to spend them cleaning my car.”
Car wash employee Heath Williams agreed with his boss. Williams said hand washing cannot compare to this new tunnel car wash.
“It does everything for you. You don’t even have to get out of your car,” Williams said. “And you cannot get a better car wash for the money. I guarantee you if you went out and bought all the products it would cost you way more than $12, which is our most expensive car wash.”
Sumiton resident Ashlyn Roach said she was thrilled to have this type of car wash in her hometown. Roach came in Tuesday morning to test out the new business.
“I love it, because I don’t have to drive to Jasper just to get my car washed,” Roach said. “There is no excuse now for people in Sumiton to drive a dirty car. So come out and support our local business and get your car completely clean. It is a great place with friendly people, so come on out.”
East Walker Chamber of Commerce Vice President Jeff Hollis came out Tuesday to help open the new business. Hollis said it is important for residents to support their local businesses.
“I think this is a great addition to our community, and it is in a perfect location,” Hollis said. “I just want to encourage our residents to shop local whenever they can. This will help out everyone in the long run.”
The Sumiton Express Car Wash is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and open Sunday from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. The Sumiton Express Car Wash is located on U.S. Highway 78, next door to Little Caesar’s Pizza.
