What Are You Thankful For?
was thankful for the way I was raised by those special ones who
loved me - my grandparents, aunts, and of course, my parents.
I was thankful for the way my life is now - my children, my wonderful grandchildren,
my brother and sister and brother-in-law, my niece, my husband and my friends.
I was thankful for my pets.
I was thankful for some "small", yet important things - soft, feathery
pillows and good, comfortable quilts to make my bedtime special.
I hope that I will always remember to be thankful for all of these people, pets,
and simple material possessions.
I know that I have been blessed.
What were you/are you thankful for?
Asa Faith's question got me to thinking.....This year
started out rough for me and my family. I spent my birthday, January
15th in the emergency room. My mother had been experiencing severe
nausea and the doctor had prescribed some medicine. She fell and and
broke some ribs and was having problems walking. As it turns out, what
we thought was a reaction to some medicine, turned out to be a light
stroke and she was on the verge of a heart attack. She went through
by-pass surgery and another surgery to install a pacemaker
The next two weeks were touch and go and we were at the hospital until
Last Thanksgiving my mother played touch football with me and the grand kids.
She took the ball on one series of downs and blew around the end with an entourage
of giggling grand kids chasing her. She went from that scene to one in which
she was knocking on heavens door, within six weeks.
She did manage to struggle through and she's now living back at
home by herself which is where she wants to be. "I hate to
be a burden on any of you," she says....I could choke her
when she says this.
So what am I thankful for? I'm thankful for a beautiful loving wife and the
fact that we have so much in common. And for my two sisters, Mary Lois and
Christie who torment me at every opportunity. I'm thankful for the gift of
music and the chance to share it with others. I'm thankful for my health and
I'm thankful that I conceived the idea of this website and the fact that it
has reunited me with so many old friends and helped me to meet new ones. For "Taylor
the Blunder Dog" that I found abandoned at a dump. I'm thankful for my
little house with a purple door up in Empire, Alabama....and I'm thankful that
I got to spend another Thanksgiving with my mother.
