Mrs. Geraldine Gant Passes Away
Geraldine K. Gant, of Dora, died Tuesday, May 20, 2008, at Ridgeview Health Care in Jasper. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, May 23, at New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home with burial at Day Cemetery in Oakman. Rev. Lee Taylor will officiate. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. New Horizon Memorial Funeral Home will direct.
Eunice McMichen, Retired Teacher at DHS Passes Away
Ms. Eunice McMichen, a beloved teacher at Dora High School passed away on Christmas Eve. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 2:00 pm in the New Horizon Memorial Chapel with Rev. ! Max Davis officiating. Burial will follow at Walker Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 - 2:00 pm in the chapel.

MARY "ERIN" HUBBERT, age 86, died April 27, 2005 at Hope Hospice Shell Point, Fort Myers, FL. She taught at Dora High School from 1942-1944. Erin was born November 20, 1918 in Walker County, Alabama, a daughter of the late Thomas
Posey McConnell Hubbert and Annie Laura Fairley Hubbert. Erin was employed by the Department of State for 35 years and resided in Falls Church, VA. She is survived by her daughter, Anne Hubbert
Mullins; son-in-law, Thomas Mullins and granddaughter, Meaghan Leigh Mullins of Fort Myers, FL;
Susan Erin Martin and granddaughter, Erin Lynn Welshans of Arlington, VA;
and sister, Jean Hubbert of Fairfax, VA. Graveside services are to be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, May 4, 2005 at National Memorial
Park, Falls Church, VA. The Reverend James Canody of Cranford United Methodist Church, officiating. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Hospice of Southwest Florida,

Virginia Teaford Murray

MURRAY, VIRGINIA TEAFORD, of Dora, passed away on February 15, 2003. She was born September 13, 1912, the first of the late Jacob Grover and Mary Alsup Teaford. She married A. C. Murray, Jr. who preceded her in death. She graduated from Athens College in 1936. She retired from Dora High School after having taught for 32 years. She was a long time member of the Sumiton Methodist Church. Virginia was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honary teachers society. She was active in the Walker County Homemakers Club, often winning prizes for her quilts and other hand work. She took great pride in her home and yard, constantly caring for her flowers. Two brothers, and one sister predeceased her, Jacob Grover Teaford, Jr., Paul W. Teaford, and Helen Teaford Ling. Survivors include three brothers and one sister, Lloyd and his wife Helen Teaford of Savanah, Harvey and his wife Betty Lois Teaford of Mobile, Fred and his wife Jacqueline Teaford of Birmingham and Betty Jo Teaford of Jacksonville, IL; ten nieces and nephews; 16 great nieces and nephews on whom she lavished her love. Services will be held at Bell Funeral Home, Sumiton Tuesday, February 18, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Family will receive friends Monday from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. at Bell Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Sumiton United Methodist Church. Bell Funeral Home directing.

William T. "Bill" Blow former teacher at Dora High School passed away on Saturday December 27th. Mr. Blow was my history teacher in the tenth grade. He was a very good teacher that loved history and took a personal interest in his students. . He began his Teaching career in the Walker County Board of Education at Dora High School and retired from the Jefferson County Board of Education after teaching a combined total of 30 years. He taught at Graysville School, Minor Jr. High School and Edgewater School. He was manager of the Graysville Swim Club for 28 years until it closed. His funeral was December 30th and he was burried at Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper.
Bonnie H. Minor
Bonnie H. Minor, 94, of Dora died Monday, Jan. 5, 2004, at Cordova Health Care Center. Her funeral was held on January 7th. Mrs. Minor worked for many years in the lunchroom at Dora High School. She was preceded in death by her husband, Houston Minor, and son, Charles Minor.
She is survived by her son, Joe Minor and his wife, Frankie of Cordova; sisters, Grace Oliver of Birmingham and Edith Sasser of Peachtree City, Ga.; brothers, Roger Duncan and his wife, Peggy of Dora and Omer Duncan and his wife, Colleen of Kimberly; grandchildren, Chuck Minor and his wife, Gari Leigh of Jasper, Chris Savage and his wife, Barbara of Atlanta, Ga., Becky Dixon and her husband, Scott of Blount Springs, and Kristi Goode and her husband, Dusty of Helena; great-grandchildren, Wesley Minor, Andrew Minor, Patrick Minor, Katie Dixon, SarahBeth Kimbrell and Samuel Dixon.
Pallbearers were Ralph Parker, Wayne Parker, Arthur Lee Taylor, Homer Brown, Arnold Boshell and Perry Williams.Bell Funeral Home, Sumiton; 205-648-6611.
Billy Moore, Former Teacher at Dora High Passes Away
Billy J. Moore, 76, of Jasper, died Saturday, Aug. 20, 2005, at Walker Baptist Medical Center in Jasper. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 23, at the Collins-Burke Chapel with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery in Jasper. Visitation will be from 6 until 9 p.m. today, Aug. 22, in the parlor. Dr. Michael Adams and the Rev. Charles W. Powell will officiate. Collins-Burke Funeral Home will direct.
Moore was a teacher with the Walker County Board of Education and taught at Cordova, Curry and Dora high schools. He served as principal of Curry and Dora high schools. He was a veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents Howard and Ethel Moore.
He is survived by his wife, Wilma L. Moore of Jasper; sister, Carolyn Moore Burton; and several nieces and nephews.
