DORA -- The Dora Lady Bulldogs put an end to Curry's county championship run.
Dora topped Curry 70-48 in the Walker County Large Schools Basketball Tournament at Dora High School Thursday evening. Dora's win prevented Curry from taking back-to-back titles.
The Lady Bulldogs won their fifth straight game and improved to 10-7 on the year.Curry suffered just its second loss of the season, dropping to 14-2. The 10th-ranked Lady Yellow Jackets had won eight straight games and and three of the last four WCLS tournaments.
Things were physical from the opening tip and Curry jumped out to an early 18-12 edge after the opening quarter.

Thanks in part to a 12-4 run to open the second quarter, the Lady Bulldogs fought back to take a 30-27 lead into halftime after Softley nailed a three-pointer with four seconds left in the first half.
Dora then took a 42-36 advantage heading into the fourth quarter before outscoring the Lady Jackets 28-12 in the fourth. Curry scored 18 points in the first quarter, but managed only 30 the rest of the way.
Chantrese' Softley led the Lady Bulldogs, scoring 24 points, half of which came from the three-point line. Kayla Smiley also played well, adding 16 points, while Kayla James had eight points and six rebounds.
"The girls really wanted it tonight," said Dora head coach Brian Keeton. "We have a very quick team and we've proved that we can score a lot of points. Today we played some good defense too. I thought Chantrese' and Kayla both played very well on both ends of the court and hopefully, we can keep it up."
Curry freshman Kellye Jordan led all scorers, racking up 25 points, including 8-of-9 free throw attempts. Jordan also managed 10 steals and seven rebounds.
Sam Sosebee added five points for Curry while Kelsie Stelman had four points, five rebounds, four blocks and three steals.
Kim Davis had four points, five rebounds and a pair of steals for the Lady Jackets while Erin Johnston picked up four points and four rebounds.
Dora will face the Walker Lady Vikings in the championship game, beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday.
