Dogs Fall in First Round Playoffs to J.B.Pennington by Joe Moon
What started to be a pleasant, yet cloudy, Sunday afternoon baseball game, turned out to be a muddy, rainy game. Dora took on J. B. Pennington in the first round of the Summer League Dizzy Dean State baseball tournament in Vinemont. The Bulldogs were defeated by the Tigers, 2-1. It was a great pitching duel for the first 5 innings for both teams, only allowing each team at-least 2 base runners. Pennington scored their two runs in top of the sixth inning, while Dora scored their only run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Dora will next face the Corner Yellow Jackets on Tuesday at 8 P.M. in a losers bracket game. SPECIAL NOTE: Dora will play in the World Series in Hixson, TN on July 18-20.
Curry Sweeps the Dawgs by Joe Moon
It was a tough night for the Dogs. It was hot, humid, and it took it's toll on both teams. In the first game, it was a wild west shoot-out, with Curry defeating Dora 23-18. The second game was a little more exciting, but Curry defeated Dora 8-2. Dora's record now is 5 wins and 7 losses. Next up for Dora, on Thursday, J. B. Pennington, at Dora's Wolfe Field at 6 PM and 8 PM. Come out and support the Bulldogs. Go Dawgs Go !!
Dawgs and Yellow Jackets Split a Double Header by Joe Moon
The Bulldogs played the Corner Yellow Jackets on Thursday, June 5, at Corner. Dora did not look good in the first game, losing it 14-1 in 5 innings. The second game was a different story. Dora defeated Corner in a time-shorted game, 11-5. The Bulldogs, with the split, now have a record of 4 wins and 2 losses. Next week, Dora at Curry, on Monday night and on Thursday night, Dora will play at J. B. Pennington. Go Bulldogs Go!!!
Its was a traditional inter-county rivalry between Dora and Curry at Curry High School field on Monday. Dora was a bit sluggish in game 1, managing to get only 3 balls out of the infield. Curry, backed with a good hitting display and excellent pitching, blasted Dora 11-0 in 5 innings. The second game was a different story. Dora was hitting the ball hard, pitching OK, and fielding good. Jorge Williams blasted a 2-run homerun to help the cause.Yet, the second game was a close one, with Dora defeating Curry 9-8. Dora's next doubleheader will be played in Blountsville, against
J. B. Pennington on Thursday.
Corner Knocks Dawgs Out of the Playoffs by Joe Moon
The weather was great for baseball, but not for the Dora Bulldogs. They played the Corner Yellow Jackets in a losers' bracket game in the State Tournament on Tuesday. The Bulldogs were up 5-1 early in the game, but Corner started a barrage of timely runs, to take a 11-5 lead. Dora never recovered, losing the game and a shot at a State Tourney title by the score of 13-6. The team will not be going to the World Series in Tennessee, thus ending the season with a record of 7 wins and 9 losses. Thanks for letting me bring you Dawg fans the Summer Baseball coverage. See ya'll August 28th for the Cordova-Dora football game. Go Dawgs Go!!
